“Sure, one second,” she said. Pulling out her phone, she began to type and search until she finally found the email. With the press of a few buttons she had it forwarded. “There, it’s been sent.”

“Thank you,” Brigid said. “Anyone else? If that guy’s a couple hours away, I think that’s a pretty solid alibi.”

“Right?” Mia chuckled. “Well, there was someone else with our company who wasn’t too thrilled with her, but he hasn’t done anything but grumble behind her back.”

“And he’s here on the trip?” Brigid asked.

Mia nodded. “Everyone is here. I mean, who would turn down a free vacation?”

“You have a point,” Brigid said with a faint smile. “Who is he?”

“Peter Santorini. He’s one of our interns,” Mia explained.

“And what was his problem with your boss?” Brigid asked as she wrote down his name.

“He apparently referred a new client to Modern Marketing with the hopes it would help him get on their marketing team. But Amelia shot him down. He’s been pretty upset about it.” Mia was quiet for a moment and then she gasped. “Do you think he did it?”

“It seems like a pretty flimsy reason for murder,” Brigid said. “But then again, there’s no telling what happened, which is why we’re looking into all the possibilities.”

“Okay, sorry. I’m just so upset I’m not thinking clearly,” Mia said, her chin trembling slightly.

“That’s completely understandable,” Brigid said compassionately. “I’m sure you and Amelia were very close. It’s only natural to be upset.”

“We were,” Mia nodded emphatically. “I’ve been with her since the beginning, and we’ve spent so much time building this business. I don’t know what’s going to happen to all of us. I mean, I have an idea for the short term, but what about a month from now or a year?” Her eyes were wide and innocent looking, brimming with unshed tears. “I don’t have more than two hundred dollars in my savings account.”

“What do you think is going to happen with the business for now?” Brigid asked, following a thought. After all, people often kill because there would be some sort of financial gain to them. Inheriting a successful business might be motive enough. She assumed there was some sort of chain of command or a person who would at least take over temporarily.

“I would assume her husband will take over. Between the two of us, we should be able to manage,” Mia said. There was something about her tone that made Brigid take notice. It was almost as if the woman was looking forward to it. It struck her as odd, considering how upset Mia had been just a few moments earlier.

“I can see that,” Brigid said carefully. “Even if it’s only temporary, there would have to be someone who knows what’s going on to take over the reins. Where is her husband now?”

“I’m not really sure,” Mia said. “Maybe in their room?”
